I used to go camping with my family at Clinton Lake as a teenager. I went there again this year to take my own teenagers camping. I reserved online with was convenient, but when I arrived I was confused. The tiny gravel horseshoe they give you for a camp site was a joke. In my memories there were lots of trees and you could see the water. There was no water in sight. and my majestic view was a great big open field of nothing with large RVs.
After I talked to my Dad to figure out what happened I realized that my family always went to Clinton Lake, not Clinton State Park. So I took my family to the other side of the lake and finally saw the familiar campgrounds I grew up with.
The price of the Clinton state park site was $10 per night, the price at the Clinton Lake was $14 per night or $18 with electricity. If you are going camping pay the bit more and head to the other side of the lake.
That few extra dollars will get you within sight of the water, closer to the beach, and surrounded by beautiful trees. Kinda the whole reason for camping. If I wanted a big field of nothingness I would have camped in my own backyard.
