Ship Bottom - Long Beach Island

Long Beach Boulevard

LBI, as Long Beach Island is known in the local lingo, is a beach lover's paradise. Even at the widest point of this 18-mile-long island strewn with small shore towns and long stretches of white sand, you're never more than half a mile from the other side. In the north part of the island is Barnegat Light, which encompasses Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and the commercial fishing port of Viking Village.

Clean, quiet, and free (most of the time). It beat out seaside as my go to beach. Beautiful town to hang around after you leave.

I've been going to Long Beach Island for vacations my entire life which is over 60 years. In spite of or because of the lack of a boardwalk this is a great family-oriented vacation spot. There are plenty of fine restaurants several places to get a cocktail and lots of shopping. The only downside is that some time ago the New York crowd found the island and decided it was a good place to build million dollar houses therefore it's over crowded with rude New Yorkers

Best family beach around if you just want to avoid all the Wildwood or Atlantic City craziness. It's more laid-back. Just beware of the snobs. Lol

I had not been here in many years. Minus a few upgrades it looks like time has stood still. That's nice to see in this day and age. You have to go off the island if you want a big box store or fast food, that is fantastic. Easy access to clean well maintained beaches. The main road could use a little help, especially when it rains. But over all a great place!
