Information on:

South Beach Park

South Beach Park
400 North State Road A-1-A

HOURS OF OPERATION: The park opens at 8:00 A.M. and closes at sundown, seven days a week. Sundown is usually established by the U.S. Weather Bureau and is normally published in the weather section of the local newspaper.

PICNICKING: There are no picnic facilities available at this facility, however, both Spanish River and Red Reef Parks are adequately equipped with grills and tables available on a first come-first served basis. Both facilities are located just a short distance north on A1A.

FIRES: No fires will be permitted in park or on the beach.

TENT AND TRAILER CAMPING: No individual family tent or trailer camping will be allowed. South Beach Park is considered principally a day-use beach area.

PETS: No pets will be allowed in the park or on the beach.

SWIMMING: Access to the beach and the Atlantic Ocean is available from three (3) designated locations within the park. Pedestrian traffic is restricted to these elevated walkways. Lifeguards are on duty year round from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

NATURE: The plants found in this park are mostly native trees and shrubs commonly found on dunes. They have adapted themselves to withstand the continuous salt breeze while their major function is the stabilization of the constantly shifting sand. It is therefore prohibited to remove or destroy them in any way.

WILDLIFE: The walks and heavily foliaged areas are favored haunts for a wide variety of small birds. On occasion, larger and more spectacular web-footed birds are observed on the ocean side of the park.

FISHING: Surf fishing is one of the favorite pastimes of many park visitors. However, fishing in designated swimming areas during normal swimming hours (protected hours) is PROHIBITED.
